Mukul Wasnik, Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment, PCR&POA Acts Meet, Jubilee Hall, Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh. The Union minister urged the state government to set up exclusive special courts to deal with atrocity cases. The special courts will help in increasing conviction rate in atrocity cases. During 2008-10 the conviction rate in AP was only 13%. The Union minister has also urged the state government to set up state and district level vigilance and monitoring council to deal with atrocity cases. During the year 2010 about 38,449 cases of atrocities were reported in the country with 5074 cases in Andhra Pradesh. The residential schools in Andhra Pradesh are providing good education to the socially backward children.
